Details
Description
- From Hessle foreshore, under the Bridge, start walking in a westerly direction to North Ferriby. Pass through Long Plantation and Terrace Plantation, then Bow Road, to reach the top of Welton Dale. (Several alternative paths are shown on the map. Use the first on those odd occasions when spring tides prevent walking along the foreshore at North Ferriby. Use the others if you fancy extending this 20-mile route!)
- Wauldby Manor is the next landmark you pass, and from here the paths level out somewhat; you have climbed up the Wolds scarp.
- Take a series of field paths to Bottoms Road and Skidby, the first village you enter on this route. You head northwards now, along a track and field paths, to the site of the medieval village of Risby.
- Risby Park is an attractive approach to Walkington but you might not have time to loiter if your 12 hours are nearly up. A further series of tracks and field edge paths will take you to the road over Beverley bypass. Then it is a simple matter of reaching the Westwood and walking into Beverley along Cartwright lane.
