Details
Description
- To begin your walk follow a green lane uphill. (You will see a large hall through the woods to the south. If the sky is clear you might also see the towers of Lincoln Cathedral).
- Next follow the woodland paths to Welton Dale Road. Walk along a road and field headland to reach, and pass by, a large farm unit at Wauldby. (A century ago this unit held a population of 86 and a small church.)
- After following a further field headland - part of the Wolds Way - to a green lane, turn left to return to Brantingham. Pause to appreciate the fine views across the Vale of York.
- You can split this route into two short walks (of one mile or of four miles) by using the shortcut shown on the map, running through South Wold Plantation.

Features of interest
- Brantingham is a picturesque little village with many fine houses and quaint cottages lying at the foot of the popular Brantingham Dale. The 'ham' suggests an early Saxon settlement and evidence of Roman occupation has been found.
- During quarrying in 1941, walls, mosaics and tessalated pavements of a Roman Villa were found. One of the two mosaic floors is displayed in a Hull museum and the other one was stolen.
- The unusual war memorial in the village is built out of stones from the old Hull Town Hall and was once described as "lovingly awful". The 'urns' seen around the village are also from that building.
